    Sigur Rós is not just a band but a definition of music. They are simply going to change music forever, as well as the way people think about it.

    Hailing from Iceland, Sigur Rós was formed by singer and guitarist Jón Þór Birgisson (Jónsi), bassist Georg Holm (Goggi), and drummer Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson. Named after Jónsi's younger sister Sigurrós who was born on the very same day as the band in 1994, they released the first record Von (Hope) three years later, and the experimental and ambient work was soon followed by a remix album Von Brigði (Recycle Bin).

    Later joined by keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson (Kjarri), the band really found their feet with their second album, which came in 1999. The critically acclaimed Ágætis Byrjun (A Good Beginning) leads the thoughts of the world away to mythical Iceland, featuring the mournful epics Ný Batterí, Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása, and Svefn-G-Englar, whose music video captured the the breathtaking scenery of Iceland and the remarkable performance by members of the Perlan Theatre Group. When Ágúst left the band after recording Ágætis Byrjun, he was replaced by a new drummer, Orri Páll Dýrason.

    ( ) came out in 2002. The lyric-less and title-less album was a darker, more raw and less accessible follow up to Ágætis Byrjun, coming out to favourable reviews around the world. It is an album with eight beautifully written tracks for our own interpretation, and with a blank booklet for us to write our own lyrics.

    Their fourth album Takk… (Thanks) was finally released in 2005 under EMI Music. It quickly became the largest selling album to date by Sigur Rós, and charted highly across the globe. The band celebrated the release of Takk... with an extensive world tour, and made their first stop at Hong Kong on April 7, 2006.

    In support of the band’s first ever film, Heima, the twin records Hvarf and Heim were created. Hvarf (Disappeared) is a five-track electric studio record comprising mainly the unreleased rarities from their back catalogue. Heim (Home) presents six delicate, new unplugged versions of some of the band's best moments.

    Progressing from a one man band to a five-piece project, Sigur Rós Chinese is the product of eight years of after hours work backed up by the love and support of the band and their management in London, Big Dipper. The Heima Screening in Hong Kong would only remain a distant dream should there have been no help from John Best, Manager of Sigur Rós, and EMI Music Hong Kong. It's true that Sigur Rós is not just a band but a definition of music, and we look forward to meeting everyone again the next time when Sigur Rós work their magic.
